What is Dental Bonding?

Bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that enhances your smile. If your front teeth are chipped or cracked, or if you have unsightly spaces and gaps between them, bonding can help to build up these areas and improve the look of your teeth. Bonding utilizes tooth-colored composite resin that is matched to your existing teeth. This helps the bonding to look completely natural and seamless once applied.

Why is Dental Bonding needed?

The reason you may want or need bonding work is because your smile has spaces, gaps and imperfections. Bonding typically requires little to no anesthetic, so it’s a less invasive option when compared to other cosmetic treatments. You might be wanting to come in for bonding because you’re tired of the way that your teeth look. Others choose bonding before a big event or party when they want to look their best.

Who is a candidate for Dental Bonding?

Most of our patients who need or want bonding can safely come in to have the procedure done. Bonding is most often done on just the front teeth to fill in areas of missing dentition. If you have gaps, spaces or chipped front teeth, bonding is a quick and easy way to correct the problem. You can expect your bonding to last for 10 or more years before replacement is necessary.

What happens during the procedure for Dental Bonding?

The procedure to place bonding is simple, and little to no anesthetic is necessary. We first file down the area that will be bonded to smooth any rough or jagged edges. A bonding gel is applied before the composite resin is smoothed into place. We carefully detail the material so that it blends seamlessly with the existing tooth. The material is then cured and hardened into place, preventing it from moving. This process is then repeated if any other front teeth require bonding work.
