Dental Bridges

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a type of restoration that is used to replace missing teeth within the mouth. The restoration is made using tooth-colored, durable materials. Most bridges can last for decades before they’ll need to be completely replaced. Your bridge offers both cosmetic and restorative benefits to your smile.

Why would a Dental Bridge be needed?

The reason you might require a fixed bridge is because you’re missing a tooth. When a tooth is missing, the surrounding teeth may begin to shift and it can be difficult to eat and chew normally. Rather than feel unhappy with your smile, a bridge can be made and placed to cover the area of missing dentition. Your bridge is a long-lasting benefit to your smile and can be placed in virtually any area of the mouth.

Who is a candidate for a Dental Bridge?

We will first examine your teeth to decipher if a bridge is right for you. Bridges can and should be replaced as they show signs of wear. Bridge work is often a better option for patients who cannot have implants placed. Likewise, special bridges can be placed over implants that have been given time to heal.

What happens during the Dental Bridge procedure?

The procedure will begin by administering a safe local anesthetic. This numbs the area and improves your comfort while in the office. We then file down the surrounding teeth and take impressions of the area itself. These impressions will be used by lab technicians to create a customized dental bridge. You’ll come in for a second appointment to have the bridge placed. Any adjustments to the bridge that are needed will be done at this appointment. You’ll then leave the office feeling great about the way that your new smile looks.
