Your six month dental checkup with your dentist, Dr. Zachary Allmand, has several phases that are designed to thoroughly clean your teeth and monitor the health of your mouth, teeth and gums. If you’ve had issues with tooth sensitivity, or if you have developed some areas of tooth decay, Dr. Zachary Allmand might recommend having a fluoride treatment at the end of the dental checkup.
Your tooth enamel is made up of microscopic mineral crystals that can be affected by acidic foods, beverages and the natural bacteria in your mouth. Fluoride exposure helps fortify these microscopic minerals, making your teeth less susceptible to tooth decay and sensitivity.
To administer the fluoride treatment, our Monon Family Dental team will pour a small amount of concentrated fluoride solution into trays that are inserted into your mouth and held there for a few minutes. After the fluoride treatment, you should avoid eating or drinking for at least a half an hour to allow the fluoride to deeply penetrate into the enamel of your teeth.
Dr. Zachary Allmand might also recommend adding fluoride toothpaste into your oral hygiene routine to increase your daily fluoride exposure.
If you are overdue for your next dental checkup, or if you are interested in a fluoride treatment in Indianapolis, Indiana, you should call Dr. Zachary Allmand at 317-810-9285 to schedule an appointment.
